SCULPTURE

Asleep growing

Mixed Media | 2008
Mushroom substrate and oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus).
Variable dimensions

This installation is a cast of my body made in mushroom substrate. Mushrooms are born and die on this form while the exhibition lasts.

Mircea Eliade talks about the «Eternal Return» as a way of explaining initiations. To be reborn in  knowledge of any kind. All initiations have this period of separation where they evolve alone, isolated (as if they were in a dream, or a fairy tale) and at the end they reintegrate society as a transformed person.

Referring to the work of Marie-Louise Von Franz, that analyses Fairy Tales, one can observe that all Fairy Tales happen for the most to a protagonist at the age of adolescence. The character is passing some initiations to become an adult and «live happy ever after».
